Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, has been awarded as the coveted 'World's Leading Airline' for the second year in succession by the World Travel Awards (WTA). Etihad Airways continued its remarkable ascend by picking up the award after a year that saw the airline launch five new cheap flights to different destinations. World Travel Awards is acknowledged by most as the final word as far as travel industry is concerned. Etihad Airways was presented the influential award at a sparkling WTA Grand Final 2010 Ceremony at the London’s Grosvenor House. Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, accepted the award. Additionally, the national carrier won the award for the 'World’s Leading First Class' airline for the third year in a row. Etihad Airways’ Chief Executive Officer, James Hogan, was extremely pleased with the recognition. “To win the award for ‘World’s Leading Airline’ two years running is a phenomenal and unprecedented achievement for an airline that is only seven years old.” Mr Hogan stated in the company’s press release. Mr Hogan emphasised on the company’s strong work ethics and added, “It shows that our service ethic is well embedded and that we have the ability to consistently deliver what customers want. The aviation industry is fiercely competitive and to win an accolade like this, and be placed amongst the best in the world, is something we will continue to strive for year on year.” 2010 indeed has been a great year for Etihad Airways as the Abu Dhabi-based airline won several awards at the WTA ceremony for the Middle East which was held in May. World Travel Awards The World Travel Awards, founded more than 15 years ago, honour the finest in the airline, hospitality and tourism industries.
